We are reaching out to invite your participation in an important community safety initiative: the One Road Out (ORO) campaign, organized by the Rancho Aromitas Firewise Community (RAFC). This campaign is focused on helping Aromas neighborhoods that have only one road for evacuation—a serious risk during a wildfire emergency when blocked roads can lead to life-threatening situations.
At our April 16th community meeting at the Grange Hall, we introduced the ORO campaign and shared the story of one local neighborhood that is already working with the RAFC to evaluate alternative evacuation routes. With RAFC support, this neighborhood is engaging CAL FIRE, mapping exit options, and developing neighbor-to-neighbor evacuation agreements—the kind of planning that can make all the difference in a crisis.
We want to emphasize: these plans are not official evacuation orders from agencies like the Office of Emergency Services. Rather, they are community-driven efforts—neighbors working together to develop realistic evacuation options long before an emergency strikes. The RAFC’s role is to support you: to help you organize, evaluate risks, understand your options, and connect with resources.
Over time, we hope to see more neighborhoods develop their own plans, maintain their alternative routes, and even conduct evacuation rehearsals with CAL FIRE—a strategy that has proven highly effective in nearby communities.
